Understanding Fuel Prices
The price of fuel fluctuates on a daily basis and is based on the Suncor terminal rack rate. The rack rate is the actual cost of each product prior to provincial and federal sales tax as well as carbon tax being added after company transportation costs and margins are factored into the overall price per liter.
Tax rates vary and are dependent on the product being purchased. For example, clear regular gasoline has a different taxation level than marked regular gasoline. This applies to clear diesel and marked diesel as well. An example of the tax applied to clear diesel versus marked diesel ($/Liter) follows:
How You Can Save Money On Fuel
There are many costs associated with delivering fuel to our customers. These costs range from transporting the fuel from the Suncor terminal to the end user, capital expenses such as trucks and equipment, as well as operating and administration costs.
The larger the quantity of fuel, required by the customer to be delivered to their worksites, the lower the overall price per liter will be which is determined by the greater operating efficiencies the company realizes through moving greater volumes.
In order to capitalize on lower fuel pricing, the customer will need to have adequate storage capacity on site that will meet their minimum fuel demand capacities. If a customer uses an estimated 3,000 liters per week, it would be advised that they have at least 4,500 liters of storage capacity available to them. This would ensure that they would not run out of fuel prior to the next weekly delivery.
If the same customer was to increase their storage capacity to 9,000 liters, deliveries would only have to occur every 2-3 weeks. Because the deliveries being made are less frequent and the volumes are larger, customers can expect to save a little more on the price they pay per liter of fuel.
Castle Fuels (2008) Inc. can assist you with your fuel storage needs. We are able to access enviro-tanks as well as farm tanks and would be happy to discuss the different options available to you based on your situation.
