AN OPTIMISTIC OUTLOOK!
Is our economy in interior BC finally ready to make a big positive move? What should we expect in 2004? We certainly can't claim to be experts but we will take this opportunity to share a few opinions.
For most of us, 2003 was a year of extremes. We certainly had the lows with War in Iraq , forest fires, mad cow, softwood dispute, drought and pine beetle. However, hidden among all of these difficulties were signs that our BC economy may be ready to begin some serious growth. We believe there is room for lots of optimism.
The bright lights that we see from our perspective include...
Increased Budgets For Road Construction
Growth in Commercial & Residential Construction
Active Projects in Mining Exploration
Stabilizing of the Forest Industry
A Brighter Outlook for Recreation & Tourism (Olympics and Pre-Olympic events)
More General Optimism across the Business Community
Each of the above scenarios should contribute to a positive "trickle down" effect throughout our economy. Hopefully, we will see a level of momentum that we have missed for several years as more and more companies choose to invest in interior BC.
We also admit to a very unscientific reason for optimism. Interior BC is a great place to live and it is simply “too nice” for the economy to languish indefinitely. If you share our optimism for the future, please spread the word. After all, optimism is contagious! |
